Beryl on Mandriva Spring 2007
Follow @ggarronThis is my first time with Mandriva, I got the Mandriva DVD and bought a new Hard Disk to test it, I installed it on a PC with this characteristics.
- Microprocessor
- Intel Pentium 4, 3 GHz, 1 MB Cache
- RAM
- 1024 MBytes
- Video Card
- ATI Radeon X300 128 Mbytes RAM
- Sound
- Intel AC97 embedded on the Mother Board
I made a fresh install with the DVD selecting GNOME instead of the default KDE, and configured it as a Dektop PC, not a server.
I have to say that I am really impressed with the easy installation, only a few clicks and I got it working, it recognize everything, sound, video (Had to change resolution as by default put only 1024x768), USBs, etc.
I wanted to test Beryl, so I went to
System->Configure your computer
entered the root password when prompted
and got this screen.
Select Hardware, the click on "Configure 3D Desktop Effects"
You will see this screen, select as I did
native support and Beryl have to be selected.
click Ok, and you will be prompted to install new software, accept it, and you will have all installed, after that, you can write on the console
beryl-settings
to setup you preferred configuration, and voila! here is what I got!
I really liked mandriva, I will be testing it, and will include into this Blog featured distribution together with, Debian, Fedora, Centos and Ubuntu.
