I have been blogging for some time, I have started in 2007. Even tough I have started with Joomla I have almost immediately switched to Drupal.

Some days ago I have installed Movable Type (MT) 5 Open Source, While I am still exploring it, I think is time to share some thoughts about it.

For those new to MT, it is a perl powered CMS platform, and that is some of its big differences from the rest. While Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla and others are written in PHP, MT developers have chosen Perl.

Another big difference is: MT makes static published sites, meaning, each time you create new content is it saved as .html files in the server, while the rest CMS platforms creates content on the fly.

This has advantages and disadvantages, being the former that the sites is faster and less resources consumer, and the latter, that changes are not immediately saw.

Other advantages/disadvantages exists, but those are the most important to me.

I have noticed too, that comparing it to another platforms (I can only compare it to Drupal) is like comparing apples and oranges. Which to choose will depend on what do you need and want.

If you are a single blogger, and only want to share something with the world, MT is right for you. On the other hand, if you want to create a fully and easy customizable site then Drupal could be your better choise.

Before you start to argue that WordPress (WP) is the best for both worlds, or better than any of these for some task, please remember I have never used WP.

I am here just sharing my first impressions, and will do a better and deeper comparison once I have more experience.
